MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL

Public Speaking

Class Overview

This class teaches middle and high school students the basic principles of public speaking and dramatic expression: proper eye contact, projection, body language, timing, memorization and enunciation. Strategies for success are taught so that even the most shy student will see growth and progress.  Confidence is built through theatre games/exercises, improvisational activities, role playing, and character-building activities. There are weekly opportunities to practice these skills through recitation of memorized poetry, selected literary descriptions or historic speeches, as well as performing student chosen monologues and other planned speeches. Homework involves preparation, practice, and memorization.

We will host an Open House Performance at the end of the year featuring each student and several of their prepared speeches and poetry recitations.
